This is going to take some interesting branding to make this venture any kind of useful… When I think Wal-Mart I think a lot of things. For starters I think about how since I moved to LA from Wal-Mart heavy Missouri I rarely go there anymore (because there are like 2 in a 20 mile radius!!) and I even less think about their website when I am thinking about the store. Now Wal-Mart has this bright idea that when I’m cruising online through the vast amount of digital media streaming websites, that in the same breath that I say Hulu, Netflix, and Youtube, I’m going to also say Wal-Mart.com Yeah..no.
The world’s largest retailer on Tuesday started streaming many movies the same day they come out on DVD, in a second bid for a share of popular movie rental and streaming website Netflix Inc.’s business and just two weeks after Netflix announced new price increases.
Wal-Mart Streaming movies via their website. I would say the idea sounds good (Redbox sounds good, Time Warner movies on demand 28 days before Netflix sounds good), but eh, this one I can do without. They sound kind of greedy to get in this market if you ask me.
