That’s An Expensive Empty Plane There

Government pays for empty flights to rural airports. Get this: Federal statistics reviewed by The Associated Press reveal that in 2010, 227 passengers flew out of Ely (super rural community) while the airline got $1.8 million in subsidies. Cost to travelers $70 to $90 for a one-way ticket. Cost to taxpayers for each ticket: $4,107. The Fact that Ely is “one of 153 rural communities where airlines get subsidies through the $200 million Essential Air Service program, and one of 13 that critics say should be eliminated from it.” CLEARLY NOT PRICELESS. (sigh…whoa to US Americans and all the many things/programs we don’t know we’re paying for…double sigh…)
