NYSE–Is Your Website Still There…?

The New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street, Ne...

A little over a week ago, while at a dinner at The Waffle in Hollywood (gem of a restaurant by the way), with like 20 of my closest friends (yeah it was kinda ridiculous…lol) I ran into a couple former co-workers. While catching up with one them I learn the interesting tidbit that he’s actually in hacker school (essentially, yep.). Now before you freak, he’s training to be one of the good guys. Just like in the business world you have to know your competition to beat ‘em right? I was reminded of this, this afternoon while watching the news and this creepy video came on: (so creepy…I don’t really want to post it. If you’d like to see it, go to their site…)

“On Oct. 10, NYSE shall be erased from the Internet. On Oct. 10, expect a day that will never, ever be forgotten,” warned a video message posted on TheAnonMessage YouTube channel.

The AnonMessage channel has been used to post several Occupy Wall Street-related video messages since the protest against lax regulation of the financial sector and growing economic inequality began on Sept. 17. Those messages include an initial “official” Anonymous video regarding Occupy Wall Street and a warning sent last week to the New York Police Department that threatened retaliation if “the brutality does not stop” against Occupy Wall Street protestors.

But a separate Anonymous message published Tuesday claimed that the threat of an Oct. 10 attack on the NYSE was “a fake planted operation by law enforcement and cyber crime agencies.”

There’s a bit of drama behind this whole thing. I don’t really know how I feel about it. But the truth in the matter is that daylight will be fading, and soon enough it will be Oct 11th. If something is going to happen, it certainly that’s happened yet. I’m going to out on a limb and stamp a preemptive “FAIL” on this rumor…tick tock, tick tock…

Happy Columbus Day/ Canadian Thanksgiving!
