Who Listens to Podcasts? Your Mom Listens to Podcasts That’s Who!! (Well…maybe.)

You’ve never listened to a podcast before? That’s okay, you’re not alone. But more than a few million people here and there on both sides of the Pacific have seen the beauty in it. Allow me to put things in perspective (because I know my dad in Kansas, and younger sister in Tennessee, aren’t the only ones scratching their heads at mention of the word. Even though it’s a concept that’s been around for almost a decade…!).

The UK’s RAJAR Measurement of Internet Delivered Audio Services, conducted research years ago that yielded results with stats such as, in 2009, 7.8 million people in the UK downloaded podcasts. That was up 30% from May 2008.  “And 4.2 million said they had listened to a podcast at least once a week – up from 3.7 the previous year. “ (Source: here)

New media went mainstream years ago. And podcasting growth is a little ridiculous. Good thing there are plenty of people in this world to engage it. In 2008 China was biggest podcast market at 74% use; that’s an estimated 45million users.

According to a December 2010 report conducted by Edison Research the percentage of Americans who have ever watched or listened to a podcast is 45%, or roughly 70 million Americans 12.

Emarketer.com suggested in 2009 that “as a percentage of Internet users, podcast downloaders will grow from 9% in 2008 to 17% in 2013.”

So, yeah, maybe your mom does listen to a podcast. Question is, do you? Well feel free to start with this blogs upcoming show entitled:… remind me to tell you…” (at the very least: stay tuned!!!)
